I found this chapter of They Say I Say to extremely helpful because it taught us the importance of explaining why we are bringing up a quote in our writing pieces. At the beginning of the chapter, we read about a speaker that was introducing an audience to Dr. X by sharing his quotes and work as part of his argument, but he never explained to the audience the significance of these quotes and why he felt the need to use them. In return, this led to everyone being confused and almost discredited this speaker. Luckily he had a question and answer at the end so people were able to follow up and question him, but this isn’t always the case with writers so it is important that you are using the sandwich method that we learned about in previous reading and making sure that your readers are able to understand where you are coming from when they have no previous knowledge of what you are talking about.
