There were a lot of points in “Skeptics May Object” about planting a naysayer in your text that I learned and found to be very important. According to the reading, it is very important to include in a naysayer in your text in order to make your argument stronger. Some might disagree with this statement thinking why would you want to give your readers reasons to disagree with you and while that is a valid thought if done correctly it will actually work to your advantage and make your argument even stronger. This is so because if you include your own naysaying you will be able to be in charge of the conversation and make the argument as to why that is not true or valid but if you don’t you are risking the readers thinking about those naysays with no rebuttal and possibly discrediting your work. Another reason as to how this technique can be used to your advantage is that if you are trying to meet a length requirement, including naysays will add a great deal of length to your writing. But also don’t forget that if you don’t entertain counterarguments, you may very likely come across as closed-minded, as if you think your beliefs are beyond dispute but if you do include it you come off as a generous, broad-minded person who is confident enough to open himself or herself to debate
